Having made dozens of trips between Wisconsin’s Coulee Region and New Hampshire’s Upper Valley over the past half century a couple of signs in Whitehall, New York are worthy of note. The route east from the Coulee Region is Interstate 90, (take any of a variety of options around Chicago) almost to Albany, NY. Exit just before Albany and travel local roads over to Intestate 87 which goes north to Lake Champlain.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Revenue, I am fortunate to get a firsthand look at the impact dairy farms have on our state. After all, there is a reason why we are known as America’s Dairyland.
The dairy industry contributes $52.8 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy and employs about 121,000 local workers.
On Monday, April 13, I officially announced my intent to run for re-election to continue to be your State Senator. Since then, I have been working hard collecting nomination paper signatures, knocking on doors, and connecting with voters across the 17th Senate District.
I am proud of everything we have accomplished together to make Wisconsin a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Southern Wisconsin has a strong voice in the State Capitol and I am excited to continue our work in the next session.

Keith Purnell was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School on June 6, 1981.
He is married to Charlene Purnell, his wife of 38 years. They have two adult children, Lucas (Lindsey), and Christy (Alex). They also have five grandchildren and are expecting their sixth grandchild in July, 2026.
Democratic candidates gathered for the Wisconsin Workers’ Forum for Governor on June 2, hosted by several unions. Former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, State Representative Francesca Hong, former Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation CEO Missy Hughes, Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, and State Senator Kelda Roys participated.
The moderator asked extremely specific questions with follow-ups, shining new light on where candidates would take Wisconsin education.
